Suffering pain and losing your independence can be unbearable. But physical therapy patient Barbara “Barbie” Coonts found treatment at Teton Therapy to be just right.

In March 2024, a leg and lower back injury left Barbie needing assistance to walk and perform daily activities. Referred to Teton Therapy by her primary care provider at UC Health, her recovery solution wasn’t too hard to find.

“The moment I walk through the door, their front office staff greets me with warm welcomes, asks how I’m feeling, and shares time with my family and me. They make me feel like longtime friends or family within a very professional setting,” Barbie said.

“Teton Therapy’s therapists and their assistants are very knowledgeable and compassionate. They explain everything about my injury and how they will assist me in improving my recovery. They listen to every aspect of my descriptions, like where and how I’m hurting, and what specific symptoms I am experiencing. The exercises they instruct me to do are improving my condition. Their encouragement and support are limitless and so important!”

Every visit is different when it comes to recovery. Teton Therapy’s expert physical therapists tailor every treatment plan to the needs and goals of each patient.

Andrew Overstreet, PT, DPT, Barbie’s physical therapist at Teton Therapy, shares, “Barbie is a ray of sunshine. We love when she’s in the clinic because of her positivity and kindness to all of our staff. When we first met, Barbie was unable to walk without assistance. She is gaining independence back in her life as she improves her strength and abilities.”

Patients like Barbie must attend the visits prescribed by their therapist to ensure they are on the path to recovery. After a few months of physical therapy, she has achieved amazing accomplishments.

“I can walk, bend, and sit much easier than when I first started at Teton Therapy. Every week or two, there are new activities I’ve been able to get back to, from small accomplishments like getting in and out of my car to drive again, to larger ones like being able to go to small stores and the gas station solo using just a cane!”

She adds, “I can walk unassisted at home and in my yard. I’ve recently been able to do my theme gardens. In these gardens, we have life-size bear cubs among the wildflowers and much more!”

Unafraid of the “wildlife,” and unafraid of being in pain, Barbie has embraced her physical therapy sessions with determination and optimism. Thanks to the expert care and support she received at Teton Therapy, she is now able to walk independently and enjoy her daily activities once more, living life to the fullest.
