Wyoming flags flying at half-staff for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Wyoming and American flags at half-mast (Gregory Hirst, Oil City News)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The U.S. and Wyoming flags will be flown at half-staff throughout the state on Saturday, Dec. 7 in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, commemorating those who were wounded or killed on Dec. 7, 1941.

In a proclamation, Gov. Mark Gordon called upon citizens “to honor the great generation of Americans whose unparalleled exploits, devotion, persistence and bravery in the name of freedom have allowed our country, and many others, to prosper.”

The attack on the American military base in 1941 saw 2,403 Americans killed, 1,178 injured and hundreds of ships and aircraft destroyed and damaged. It was ultimately what brought America, which had been relatively neutral, into World War II.
