CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Residents and travelers in the Arlington area of Interstate 80 are advised to be cautious as a high wind warning is in effect from 11 a.m. today until 5 a.m. Tuesday, with westerly wind gusts expected to reach up to 60 mph.

Additionally, a high wind watch will be active for the I-80 Summit from 8 p.m. this evening through 8 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne reports.

A cold front moving south from Montana is forecast to bring increasing chances of snow across southeast Wyoming, intensifying from north to south daily. By Thursday, widespread snowfall is anticipated across the area, with the cold front extending from Pine Bluffs to Douglas.

The snow is expected to subside by Friday morning as the front moves south, leaving behind very cold temperatures for Saturday.

Weather Outlook

  • Monday and Tuesday: High winds across Arlington/Elk Mountain and the I-80 Summit. Pleasant weather on Tuesday with slightly above-average temperatures and mostly sunny skies.
  • Wednesday to Sunday: A messy storm system will pass through Wednesday into Thursday, causing accumulating mountain snowfall and possible valley rain and snow showers. Gusty winds are anticipated as the storm departs.

Travelers on I-80 are warned of the increased risk of blow-offs and/or blowovers, especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles.

With snow accumulation likely from Thursday through Friday, residents are encouraged to prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions and very cold temperatures following the storm.
