CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne and the surrounding areas in southeast Wyoming should brace for a warm yet windy weekend, as forecast by the National Weather Service in Cheyenne. This period of milder temperatures, well above the average for this time of year, will peak on Saturday before a strong cold front brings cooler temperatures and possible snowfall from Saturday night into Sunday.

Cheyenne will see a sharp rise in temperatures Thursday through Saturday, with the warmest day expected on Saturday. However, this brief respite from winter’s chill comes with strong winds that are likely to buffet wind-prone areas of southeast Wyoming, particularly on Friday and Saturday. High winds have already been reported in the Arlington area and the south Laramie Range Foothills, with peak gusts reaching up to 83 mph.

As the weekend approaches, attention shifts to the incoming cold front. This system is anticipated to not only drop temperatures back to their average range but also introduce a new round of snow, particularly affecting mountainous regions, with heavier accumulations expected Saturday through Monday. Lower elevations might see light to moderate snowfall, making for a brisk and potentially snowy end to the weekend.

While Friday continues the trend of mild weather with downslope warming winds, the scenario will shift dramatically by Sunday. A potent shortwave trough and its associated cold front will sweep across the region, introducing brisk and colder weather. Snow chances increase, although accumulations in valleys and lower elevations are predicted to be limited, except in the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges.

As the week progresses, expect blustery conditions to continue into Monday, with slight chances for light snow persisting due to cyclonic flow aloft and tight low and mid-level gradients. A slow warming trend is on the horizon for Tuesday.
