CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Residents can enjoy mild temperatures and mostly dry weather from Thursday through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne. However, the tranquility is set to be interrupted by strong winds on Friday and Saturday, particularly in wind-prone areas of southeast Wyoming.
After a period of relentless gusts, the high wind warnings were canceled early due to decreasing wind speeds. Today marks a calmer day in the region, with expected high temperatures reaching the mid-50s to lower 60s along the I-25 corridor under a ridge of high pressure. This break from the wind will be short-lived, as strong southwest winds of 55–80 mph are forecast to develop across the region, potentially leading to more high-wind scenarios, particularly in Carbon County.
Looking ahead, a more potent weather system is anticipated for the weekend. Saturday will see strengthening southwest flow, raising the likelihood of strong winds across southeast Wyoming. By Sunday, a significant shortwave trough and cold front are expected to bring brisk, colder weather as well as the possibility of snow. The Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges could see significant snowfall of 1–2 feet from Saturday night through Monday.
Monday will be blustery and cold, with continued chances for light snow and maximum temperatures hovering around the low 30s to mid-40s across the region. A gradual warming trend is forecast from Tuesday into Wednesday, with chances for snow showers in the mountain ranges.
