Windy start to the week in Cheyenne; fire dangers high

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne-area residents should brace for a windy start to the week with potentially hazardous fire weather conditions due to low humidity, particularly west of the Laramie Range, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph today, exacerbated by an approaching cold front which will also bring cooler temperatures and increased cloud cover. This cloudier outlook may mitigate some fire risks, as relative humidities are not expected to drop below critical thresholds.

The weather will briefly mellow by midweek, with Wednesday and Thursday forecast to bring mild temperatures in the mid-70s in the Panhandle and upper 60s to low 70s in southeast Wyoming.

There’s also a chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms during these days as moisture moves eastward across the region.

However, the reprieve will be short-lived. By Friday, another system moves in, increasing the likelihood of widespread showers and storms, with a significant chance of precipitation through the weekend.

Current projections do not predict snow, but colder air on Sunday could change that scenario, especially if temperatures drop lower than anticipated.
