CHEYENNE, Wyo. — As the weekend approaches, Cheyenne residents should to prepare for a significant shift in weather conditions. According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a mixture of widespread rain and high-elevation snow is expected to impact southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle through Sunday morning.

The forecast indicates total liquid precipitation amounts ranging from 0.75 to 1.50 inches in many areas. Notably, the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges could see heavy snowfall, with predictions of 1–2 feet of snow in the Snowy Range from Friday evening through Sunday morning. This has prompted the NWS in Cheyenne to issue winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings for affected areas.

Additionally, snow levels are predicted to lower sufficiently for heavy snow accumulation above 7,500 feet over the South Laramie Range and Interstate 80 Summit, although the impact on travel remains uncertain due to the daytime occurrence of the heaviest snowfall. A Winter storm watch has been issued for these areas.

As temperatures drop Saturday night, rain may transition to snow as far east as the I-25 corridor, including Cheyenne, with minor accumulations possible on grassy surfaces.
