CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Today, Cheyenne residents can expect cooler temperatures with scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms. Severe weather is not anticipated, but a hazardous weather outlook has been issued, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

Showers and thunderstorms will be most prevalent in the morning, decreasing in coverage by the afternoon and evening. Daytime highs are expected to be in the mid- to upper 50s, nearing 60 degrees.

A warming trend is on the horizon for the remainder of the week. Temperatures will rise to the low to mid-80s by Friday, especially along and east of Interstate 25.

Friday will also bring elevated wind gusts in the southeast Wyoming wind corridors. This is due to increased low-level atmospheric pressure caused by a mid-atmospheric disturbance across the inter-mountain west and northern high plains.

Looking to the weekend, a cold front and upper-level trough will move through Friday and into Saturday, potentially bringing high wind events to the region. Westerly winds could reach around 55 mph, though there’s some disagreement among models about the strength of these winds.

Precipitation is expected Sunday into Monday, with the region under two separate forces for synoptic lift, or an upward movement of air on a large scale. This will create favorable conditions for widespread precipitation. However, model disagreement remains, leading to some uncertainty in the forecast.

Temperatures are expected to stay warm throughout the long term, with highs consistently in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
