CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne residents can expect strong winds and cooler temperatures today. A cold front is moving southward through southeast Wyoming. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne is predicting wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph in wind-prone and gap areas from mid-morning through early afternoon.

Skies will be mostly cloudy with light precipitation likely in western areas. Above 9,000 feet, light snow showers will accumulate. Daytime highs in mountainous areas will be near freezing. Cheyenne and surrounding regions may see temperatures reach the 70s or possibly 80s before the cold front arrives.

Scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, but severe weather is not expected. Gusty winds will persist in western Nebraska late tonight into early Friday morning.

Friday and Saturday will see another round of weather disturbances. Rain showers and general thunderstorms are likely, but severe weather is not expected. Daytime highs will gradually increase, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s across the region.

Memorial Day looks pleasant with warm, dry weather continuing into early next week as an upper-level ridge remains in place.
