CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Residents of southeast Wyoming should brace for varying weather conditions this week. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued several key messages.
Patchy fog is expected this morning, potentially reducing visibility to less than half a mile in some areas. This fog should dissipate quickly after sunrise, clearing the way for a warm and dry day.
A significant heat wave is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with daytime highs ranging from 85 to 95 degrees. In some areas, temperatures could approach 100 degrees, particularly in the Platte River Valley. These high temperatures increase heat-related concerns, so residents should take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated.
Friday brings a return of thunderstorm activity, with a risk of severe weather. A strong shortwave trough will enter the central Rockies, increasing moisture and lift and creating conditions for storms. The Nebraska Panhandle in particular could see severe thunderstorms with large hail, strong winds and even a possibility of tornadoes. Flash flooding may also occur due to high precipitation levels.
The weekend looks to be warmer and drier, with temperatures in the 80s and breezy conditions. Early next week, a potential cool front could bring high temperatures down into the 70s.
