CHEYENNE, Wyo. — High temperatures will continue through this afternoon before easing up midweek. Expect highs in the 80s and 90s today. The highest temperatures will be in the Nebraska Panhandle, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.
Increased chances of rain and cooler temperatures are forecast from this afternoon through Wednesday. The weather will be more comfortable, with highs in the upper 70s to low 90s.
Isolated severe thunderstorms are expected today and Tuesday. Primary hazards include lightning, heavy rainfall and winds of up to 60 mph.
A dominant upper-level ridge pattern is keeping temperatures high. Overnight temperatures have been much above average, with readings in the 60s and 70s.
Monsoon moisture will bring a surge of humidity later today. Towering cumulus clouds are likely to develop into organized thunderstorms, especially near the Laramie Range. Southeast Wyoming could also experience strong wind gusts this afternoon.
Tuesday and Wednesday will bring a break from the heat. Showers and thunderstorms are possible, with severe storms expected both afternoons and early evenings. Hazards will include lightning, strong winds and large hail. Localized heavy rainfall could cause flooding if storms occur over the same areas.
Thursday will see continued southeasterly moisture, leading to storm development in the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s.
The weekend looks warmer and drier, though daily chances for precipitation remain. By Sunday, temperatures could return to the 90s across southeast Wyoming
