CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued red flag warnings for southeast Wyoming today. The warnings are in effect from noon to 8 p.m. for areas along and west of Interstate 25.

Expect critical fire weather conditions in southeast Wyoming and east–central Wyoming. Low humidity and breezy winds will contribute to the risk. Winds will be from the west and southwest at 15–25 mph, with gusts of up to 40 mph. Relative humidity will range between 6% and 12%.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Today’s high temperatures will range from 92 to 102 degrees along and east of I-25. Sensitive groups should take extra precautions due to the heat. The hot and mostly dry conditions are expected to continue into the long-term forecast.

Above-average temperatures will persist through the week. A weak cool front will provide slight relief on Wednesday, bringing temperatures down by 4–8 degrees. However, highs will still be in the 90s for the plains and 80s to the west.

Showers and thunderstorms are not expected today, but there is a chance for precipitation by late next weekend.

Thursday and Friday will remain hot, with highs in the 90s to low 100s. Mountain zones will see temperatures in the 70s. A temporary plume of monsoon moisture on Friday may bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily east of the Laramie Range.

The weekend will see continued above-average temperatures. There is potential for additional rain showers and thunderstorms by late Sunday. Next week may bring slightly lower temperatures due to increased cloud cover and continued chances for rain.
