CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne residents can expect hot and dry conditions today. Above-average temperatures will persist, with daytime highs reaching the 80s and 90s. Morning temperatures range from the lower 50s to upper 60s. The highest elevations of the Medicine Bow Mountain Range are cooler, reporting temperatures in the mid- to upper 30s.

Surface high pressure is currently at 1,019 millibars across east-central Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota. This high-pressure system typically brings stable and dry weather conditions. Clear skies and very dry air are contributing to today’s high temperatures. The air will remain stagnant, with only a few areas seeing wind gusts above 10 mph.

Fire weather concerns are elevated due to the hot and dry conditions. Tomorrow, Cheyenne will see similar temperatures, with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. These storms may bring gusty winds up to 50 mph and lightning.

By the weekend, there’s an increased chance of precipitation, with monsoonal moisture moving into the area. Highs will remain in the high 80s to low 100s, with the hottest day expected on Sunday. Next week, more unsettled weather is likely, with numerous showers and thunderstorms bringing some relief from the heat.

Changes may be on the horizon. The Climate Prediction Center’s outlook for Aug. 7–13 favors cooler temperatures and higher chances for showers and thunderstorms in southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska.
