CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne will experience cool temperatures today, with areas of dense fog continuing through the morning, especially over the Interstate 80 summit. Morning showers and thunderstorms will primarily occur east of I-25, gradually shifting west by the afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are likely west of I-25, with a potential for gusty winds, heavy rainfall and small hail, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

As the day progresses, the best chances for storms will be along the I-80 corridor from Rawlins to Cheyenne between 7 p.m. and midnight. These storms may weaken as they move east of I-25 due to a strong surface inversion.

Saturday will see a shift in weather patterns, with low cloud cover breaking by midday as surface winds become more southerly. This will create a more favorable environment for thunderstorms in the afternoon over the High Plains. Some storms may become strong to severe, producing torrential rainfall.

Sunday through Thursday, a gradual warmup with high temperatures returning to the 80s may be expected. However, daily chances for showers and thunderstorms will persist, with potential flash flooding due to slow-moving storms. Severe weather is unlikely, though a few strong storms may develop.
