CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Heavy smoke is blanketing the Cheyenne area today due to fires burning across the state and in the western U.S. As of 6 a.m., air quality in Cheyenne remained good but is trending toward moderate levels, according to Airnow.gov.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected daily throughout southeast Wyoming for the next several days, with the potential for heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne. A few strong storms may also be possible, particularly east of Interstate 25, where instability could support severe weather at times. Highs will stay in the upper 70s to low 80s through Saturday.

The stormy pattern should persist until Sunday, when drier conditions are expected to move into the region. This drying trend could lead to an increased risk of fire weather early next week. Next week’s forecast shows lower moisture levels and rising temperatures, with highs reaching the low to mid-80s.
