CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne faces potential fire weather today as gusty winds and low humidity combine to elevate fire risk. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne expects critical fire conditions with wind speeds reaching 15 mph by this afternoon. Red flag warnings have been expanded to include fire weather zones 431 and 433 in Goshen County.
Tuesday will remain mostly dry across the region, with slight chances for showers and storms in the western mountains. Wednesday brings a better chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms as a southwest flow moves in. Temperatures will be seasonably warm, with highs in the 70s to low 90s in some areas.
Looking ahead to Thursday, moisture from a tropical cyclone currently in the Gulf of Mexico may enhance shower and storm chances. This system could bring additional moisture into Wyoming, which could increase precipitation through Thursday evening and into Friday. Winds will also pick up as an upper-level trough moves across the region.
Temperatures are expected to dip slightly behind the trough on Friday, with highs in the upper 60s to mid-80s. Ridging returns on Saturday, bringing warmer temperatures and lower chances of precipitation through the weekend.
