High winds, dry air for southeast Wyoming today

(Stew Dyer / Cap City News)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gusty winds are expected to continue across southeast Wyoming on Wednesday, especially in wind-prone areas. A high wind warning is in effect, with gusts reaching 45–50 mph in some locations, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne. Winds are predicted to strengthen around sunrise. Conditions are drier following yesterday’s storm, which has stalled over Montana.

Cooler temperatures are expected today, though they will remain near normal for this time of year. Thursday will see a gradual warming trend as dry conditions persist through early Friday. Patchy fog may form early, but it will likely dissipate by sunrise.

Looking to the weekend, the autumnal equinox brings an active weather pattern. High temperatures will reach the 80s east of the Interstate 25 corridor, with 70s expected to the west. Fire weather concerns will remain elevated due to dry air and breezy winds.

A significant weather system is projected for Sunday, bringing potential rain to drought-stricken areas and the first measurable snowfall above 10,000 feet in the Snowy Range Mountains. Highs will drop into the upper 40s to low 60s.
