Weekend brings critical fire weather, windy conditions

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne residents can expect critical fire weather conditions today as a red flag warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Gusty winds of 20–30 mph, with speeds reaching 50 mph, and low relative humidity of 10–15% are expected. These conditions make outdoor burning highly dangerous, and any fires that develop may spread rapidly.

A passing cold front will bring windy conditions to southeastern Wyoming through the afternoon. High wind warnings remain in place for wind-prone areas. Winds will diminish by the evening as the weather disturbance moves through.

Smoke from a large fire in northern Wyoming could temporarily reduce visibility, especially in areas around Guernsey. The smoke will likely clear by this afternoon.

Dry weather and mild temperatures will persist through the weekend. On Sunday, expect calmer winds and temperatures reaching the mid-70s. While a cooler weather system may bring some relief next weekend, there remains uncertainty about precipitation.
