CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Expect freezing fog and drizzle along the Interstate 80 corridor overnight Thursday into Friday morning, potentially creating slick road conditions, especially from the Summit eastward. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne warns that black ice may form, with the stretch from the Summit to Cheyenne most affected.
The region will start Thursday with warmer, sunny conditions, but precipitation chances rise again by Friday afternoon.
As the Veterans Day weekend approaches, a low-pressure system is expected to bring rain and wet snow starting Friday night, particularly for areas east of the Laramie Range. This system will deliver snow above 6,000 feet and rain in lower elevations, with temperatures dropping to the mid-20s overnight Friday. By Saturday morning, snow accumulation may occur west of I-25, with areas along I-80 from Cheyenne to Laramie seeing up to 1.5 inches.
Rain and snow showers should ease by late Saturday in western areas and clear from the Panhandle by Saturday evening.
For those planning outdoor activities this holiday weekend, Sunday and Monday should bring a reprieve with warmer, dry conditions across Cheyenne and southeast Wyoming. A new cold front, however, is expected late Monday, which may bring strong winds, especially to wind-prone areas along the I-80 corridor.
