CHEYENNE, Wyo. — High winds continue to impact southeast Wyoming on Wednesday, with gusts reaching 65 mph in prone locations, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.
The strong winds, driven by a pressure gradient between a trough in the high plains and high pressure in the Great Basin, are expected to taper off by Wednesday evening. Gusts exceeding 58 mph have already been reported along Interstate 25 near the Bordeaux interchange and Interstate 80 near the Snowy Range foothills and the summit.
The NWS in Cheyenne forecasts that breezy weather will persist into Thursday, though winds will be calmer by late afternoon as high pressure moves into the region. Temperatures are expected to gradually rise to 5–10 degrees above normal, bringing the warmest weather of the week by Thursday.
High winds aside, the weather will remain mostly dry with intermittent high clouds moving through southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. Warmer and calmer conditions will prevail heading into the weekend.
