CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Dry conditions are expected to continue through the weekend in Cheyenne and southeast Wyoming, accompanied by warmer-than-average temperatures.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne is forecasting temperatures to run around 10 degrees above average on Thursday and Friday, increasing to as much as 15 degrees above average on Saturday and Sunday. High cirrus clouds may linger, but weak downsloping winds will assist in the warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the mid-50s.
Friday could bring another high-wind event to the Interstate 80 and I-25 corridors. Winds in the I-80 corridor could reach speeds of about 45–60 mph by late Friday afternoon, particularly near the Snowy Range foothills. Additionally, areas near Arlington and the Summit might see strong gusts, with some potential impacts for high-profile vehicles. Confidence in the high wind event remains strong, according to the NWS in Cheyenne.
Over the weekend, a ridge of high pressure will strengthen, allowing temperatures to increase further. However, by Sunday, a shortwave system may bring light snow showers to Carbon and Albany counties. Westerly winds off the Laramie Range are likely to limit snow accumulation east of the mountains.
Temperatures will drop Monday as a cold front moves through the region, bringing highs in the upper 20s to low 30s in southeast Wyoming.
