CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Southern Wyoming was buffeted by some extreme winds this weekend, with some communities seeing winds stronger than 80 mph.

In Cheyenne, the strongest wind gusts of the past two days were measured at approximately 68 mph. The strongest gusts in the National Weather Service’s Cheyenne region came from Bordeaux, which saw gusts of 81 mph.

Douglas experienced wind gusts of up to 74 mph. Whitaker, Sibley Peak and Rawlins saw gusts of nearly 70 mph each as well.

During periods of strong winds, the NWS in Cheyenne urges motorists — especially those in light, high-profile vehicles — to use caution when driving and stay off the roads if possible.
