CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Southeast Wyoming continues to face dangerously low temperatures and high winds, prompting multiple weather advisories. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a cold weather advisory until 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a high wind warning through 8 p.m.

Residents in areas like Cheyenne and Wheatland can expect temperatures as low as minus 18 degrees this morning, according to the advisory. Strong west winds, sustained at 25–35 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph, will persist throughout the day.

These harsh conditions will pose significant risks. The NWS in Cheyenne warns that frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Additionally, strong crosswinds will make travel hazardous, particularly for lightweight or high-profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

The weather pattern, influenced by a departing arctic front and high surface gradients, has already brought high winds overnight to areas like Arlington and Bordeaux. Gusts exceeding 60 mph have been reported in some locations, with the strongest winds expected through Tuesday afternoon. However, conditions are expected to improve by late evening as gusts subside.

A brief warmup is anticipated for midweek, offering some relief with temperatures climbing into the 30s. However, colder air and snow are forecast to return over the weekend as a Pacific system moves into the region.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme cold, including keeping pets indoors and ensuring outdoor animals have proper shelter and unfrozen water.
