CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne residents can expect strong winds and accumulating snow as the next weather system moves into the region. A high wind warning remains in effect until noon Friday, with west winds between 20 and 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne warns that strong crosswinds could make travel hazardous for lightweight or high-profile vehicles, especially along the Interstate 80 corridor.

Snow is expected to begin late Friday afternoon and intensify through the evening. A 30% chance of snow is forecast after 5 p.m., with cloudy skies and a high near 38. Winds will gradually diminish to 15–25 mph but remain breezy, with gusts of up to 35 mph.

Overnight, the chance of snow increases to 60%, with 1–2 inches of accumulation likely. The low will drop to around 10, with windchills between zero and 5.

The NWS in Cheyenne reports that this system could bring 2–5 inches of snow to portions of southeast Wyoming by Saturday evening, with higher totals of up to a foot possible in the mountains. Blowing snow may create additional travel challenges in areas such as Arlington and the higher elevations.

Light snow could persist through Sunday as the cold front stalls across the region, keeping conditions colder than average into early next week.
