Quiet midweek weather, but weekend storm system remains uncertain

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Mild and dry conditions will persist across southeast Wyoming through Wednesday, with warmer temperatures east of Interstate 25. Areas to the west will remain colder, especially at night, as inversions continue to influence temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne. Winds will be calmer today as high pressure moves further southeast.

A storm system could brush the far-southeast portion of the region late Wednesday into Thursday. Flurries or light snow may develop, but significant impacts are not expected. A breezy north wind will follow the system’s departure Thursday afternoon.

Widespread strong winds are expected this weekend alongside seasonably warm temperatures. Forecast models suggest high winds could develop Friday night into Saturday and continue through Sunday, with gusts possibly reaching 70 mph in some areas. The highest winds will occur in southeast Wyoming’s wind-prone regions but may spread into adjacent areas, including parts of the Nebraska Panhandle.

The forecast remains uncertain beyond the weekend, as models disagree on the exact position of the jet stream, which could impact precipitation chances and temperatures next week.
