A historic former school building was ravaged by fire overnight in Green River.
According to Wyo4News, crews were called to the scene around 7 p.m. on Thursday night, though posts on social media report seeing smoke as early as 5:30 p.m. Eventually flames were seen shooting through the roof, according to social media reports.
The Green River Police Department posted on social media that the fire was 70 percent contained by 10 p.m.
Sweetwater Now published photos on social media showing the building completely engulfed by flames as the evening went on.
There are no reports of injuries or cause as of Friday morning.
According to a University of Wyoming historic preservation report published in 2005, the old Washington School was completed in 1925 after the school district outgrew it’s old building, which was then converted into a Masonic Lodge.
The building is currently known as Washington Square and housed a number of small businesses.
