CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A pregnant 22-year-old woman died after she was shot four times in a Tuesday, Aug. 16 murder–suicide at 342 Highway 20 North, the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The sheriff’s office identified the young woman as Carlene D. Brown. The coroner determined that Brown was pregnant when she was shot and killed.
The suspect, identified as Donald N. Orr, 50, succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office reported.
Deputies were called to 342 Highway 20 North at 11:09 a.m. Aug. 16 to conduct a welfare check on Brown. They tried unsuccessfully to contact Brown at the property, the sheriff’s office release states. When they questioned on-site employees about Brown’s whereabouts, they were told she should be inside the building with her boyfriend. Deputies again tried to contact her without success, the release states.
Deputies breached the front door, which was heavily barricaded. Inside they found two people deceased.
The investigation led deputies to believe that during the evening of Monday, Aug. 15 or early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 16, Orr shot and killed Brown and then took his own life, the release states.
“No other suspect(s) were involved with this case and there was no threat or safety hazard to the public,” Sheriff Steven R. Rakness said in the release.
