GILLETTE, Wyo. — A recent oil and gas lease sale where nearly 36,000 acres were sold netted just over $13 million, according to the Bureau of Land Management Wyoming State Office.
The sale was held on Sept. 6 and offered nearly twice as much acreage as the final sale amount. In total, 53 parcels covering 35,701 acres sold for a total of $13,207,883, the BLM says.
According to the BLM, leasing is the first step in the process of developing federal oil and gas resources. Before development operations can begin, an operator must submit an application for permits to drill detailing the development plan.
Once applications are in, the BLM is tasked with reviewing them for permits to drill, posting them for public review, conducting an environmental analysis and coordinating with state partners and stakeholders, a sept. 7 release says.
Land leased as part of an oil and gas lease sale includes appropriate stipulations to protect important natural resources, the BLM says, adding that information concerning future lease sales is available on the National Fluid Lease Sale System.
