CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso has been released after a surgical procedure at Banner Health Wyoming Medical Center over the weekend.
According to a statement on his website, Barrasso underwent “a successful abdominal laparoscopic surgery for an abdominal obstruction.”
“Bobbi and I are grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Banner for their excellent care,” he said in the statement, which was posted on Monday, Jan. 15.
“I am doing well and was discharged from the hospital this morning. I’ll continue to recover at home in Casper this week. As soon as my doctors clear me for travel, I’ll return to D.C.”
According to the National Library of Medicine, the procedure “is done to relieve a blockage in your intestine. A blockage that lasts for a long time can reduce or block blood flow to the area. This can cause the bowel to die.”
“The outcome is usually good if the obstruction is treated before bowel blood flow is affected,” they said.
Barrasso earlier posted photos of him attending the Wyoming Health Fairs at the Ford Wyoming Center on Jan. 13 and attending the 2024 Leadership Wyoming class the previous day. The release did not say specifically when Barrasso was hospitalized and what may have caused the issue.
Oil City News has reached out to Barrasso’s office for further comment.
