State Board of Ed seeks public comment on standards, certificates of completion

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming State Board of Education and the State Board of Career and Technical Education will meet in joint session on the morning of Dec. 21, 2023.

The joint meeting will begin at 10 a.m., with the SBCTE taking up recommended revisions to the state’s Perkins V plan. If approved, those revisions will be released for a 30-day public comment period.

After the SBCTE adjourns, the SBE will convene and consider opening rule promulgation for Chapter 10 on Standards and Chapter 1 on Certificates of Completion. If approved, those rules will be open for a 45-day public comment period.

The Chapter 10 revisions include content and performance standards in math, science, computer science, physical education, health and safety, and fine and performing arts. The new Chapter 1 rules would allow students with IEPs to receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of their K–12 studies.

All SBE meetings are open to the public, and remote attendance is available. Members of the public can register to attend the meeting online. Once registered, participants will receive an email with instructions on how to join the meeting. Meeting materials are available on BoardDocs.
