A member of the Wyoming Legislature criticized “women acting like sexual objects on national television” following the Sunday, Feb. 2 Super Bowl.
House District 31 Representative Scott Clem said on Facebook that American culture “is sick and twisted, pushing over-sexualization everywhere.”
Clem shared this article from the Miami Herald in which they report that evangelist Franklin Graham also took issue with halftime performances by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
“You don’t want to be treated like a sexual object?” Clem wrote. “Then don’t act like it and role model it in front of impressionable young minds. Women are not sexual objects. They are not created for the sick pleasures and fantasies of men.”
“Men, women are to be treated with dignity and respect, treasured and protected… not exploited. Women and men, rebuke this nonsense and teach your sons and daughters that their value is not their sexuality, but in their character.”
While Clem is not alone in finding problems with the halftime show, USA Today reports that perspectives vary, with many praising the performance.
