CHEYENNE – Gov. Mark Gordon hosted a slew of guests during the 2020 State of the State address on Monday morning, but he made sure to give accolades to Army Capt. Scott Koenig in the early moments of his speech.

Koenig is a Wyoming native who recently returned from Afghanistan along with 29 other soldiers. The 30 soldiers have been in Afghanistan since January 2019 as members of the 3rd Platoon Charlie Company. Their mission was to provide 24-hour aeromedical evacuation coverage in Helmand Province.

“Welcome home to Wyoming – and know that we are so proud of the talented and brave members of your team,” the governor said. “I want to congratulate you for receiving the Air Medal and a Combat Action Badge.”

Gordon touched on a variety of topics throughout his address, including funding for education and vows to protect Wyoming’s energy industry.
