CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A wildfire that’s been burning in southeastern Wyoming since this past weekend is nearly three-quarters contained, authorities working at the scene reported Thursday morning.

The Monday Creek Fire, noted as being 653 acres in size after starting around 1:30 p.m. this past Saturday due to a lightning strike, was listed as 73% contained Thursday in a Facebook post from the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.

The blaze is located about five miles southwest of Esterbrook in southern Converse County, positioned not far from both the Albany and Platte County borders.

The U.S. Forest Service reported that rain fell on portions of the fire Wednesday night and the 147 total personnel on-scene are currently honing in on the uncontained northwest edge of the wildfire near Horseshoe Creek, which stretches between Esterbrook and Glendo.

Esterbrook Road is closed to public traffic in the fire area. Converse County enacted Stage 1 fire restrictions Tuesday that prohibit fireworks and outdoor fires in unimproved areas.
