CHEYENNE, Wyo. — First responders have put out a wildfire that spanned multiple miles south of Cheyenne and closed down Interstate 25. However, multiple interstate routes out of Cheyenne remain closed to lightweight and high-profile traffic as of Saturday afternoon.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation announced at 11:36 a.m. that I-25 between Cheyenne and the Colorado border was shut down to traffic both ways due to a wildfire.
The fire was reported at 9:30 a.m. on the medium near the 352–353 mile marker, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Simmer. Multiple agencies in the county coordinated with one another to quell the fire. The flames spread to the interstate exit near the 359 mile marker and toward WYO 225, Simmer said.
As of the time of reporting, the Wyoming Highway Patrol has no knowledge of how the wildfire started. Cheyenne/Laramie County Emergency Management Agency did not immediately respond to Cap City News’s request for comment.

- I-25 between Cheyenne, Chugwater, Wheatland and Douglas
- I-80 between Laramie, Elk Mountain and Sinclair
- US30/287 between Laramie, Rock River and Medicine Bow
