CASPER, Wyo. — Crews are wrapping up suppression repair activities on multiple fires burning in northern Wyoming.
According to a Friday morning release from the multi-agency Southwest Area Incident Management Team, the five fires in the region are now mainly contained.
the Flat Rock Fire is now 97% contained, the Remington Fire is 88% contained, the Constitution Fire is 95% contained, the House Draw Fire is 94% contained and the Silver Spoon Fire is 92% contained.
“Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5 is grateful to the communities for all the support we have received during our time assisting in the suppression of these fast-moving fires,” they said.
Updates on each fire are:
- Silver Spoon – Firefighters on the Silver Spoon Fire spent yesterday mopping up and have been able to contain most of the fire. Today, crews will continue mopping up along fire lines, making sure no heat sources remain near the fire line.
- Flat Rock – Suppression repair work on the Flat Rock Fire has been completed. There will be an engine patrolling the area today.
- Remington – Crews spent yesterday patrolling along the western side of the fire. Crews will spend today completing excavation work and fence line repair.
- Constitution – Yesterday, heavy equipment concentrated on grader work, water bars and fencing needs. Today, suppression repair work will occur on the interior of the fire and complete the last of the fencing repairs.
- House Draw – Yesterday, equipment worked on the north end of the fire, with an excavator doing work along the top end. Crews will concentrate on suppression repair on the interior of the fire today.
According to the governor’s office, the fires have burned some 629,000 acres in total so far and have affected a large amount of private land. The House Draw fire in Johnson County alone has burned more than 170,000 acres and caused at least $25 million in losses, the office said in a release on Thursday. The release said that losses from other wildfires are still being assessed.
Three wildfires are burning in the western area of the state, the most significant being the Fish Creek Fire west of Dubois. Togwotee Pass was closed earlier this week due to fire activity. According to InciWeb, the road is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Friday.
